An Interview with Zhanna Yuskevych
Coding Through Crisis: Team Voy on Building Democracy Tools in Times of War
What does it mean to write code when air raid sirens sound? For this Ukrainian development team, work has become more than just a job – it is a lifeline. In this interview, they explain how backup generators, Starlink connections, and an unshakable sense of team spirit have enabled them to continue working despite blackouts and bombardments.

How has your view of technology or work changed as a result of the war experience?
We have realized even more strongly that technology is not just about code or apps – it is a genuine tool for building resilience. Work is no longer just about ‘career’; it has become a means of contributing to stability and development, even in times of crisis.
What motivated you to keep going during this time, both professionally and personally?
Professionally, it was our desire to keep our team together and prove that we can continue working even under the most challenging conditions.
Personally, it was the determination not to let the war take away our plans – life must go on. At the same time, knowing that our work can create opportunities to donate and support Ukraine gave us even more strength to move forward.
